Wrapping Up At The Beach

It's been a full week:
  • Either #1Wife or I getting up with #1Son at some ridiculously un-beach-like hour - I had a 5.30 wake-up call yesterday. Ouch.
  • Morning duty person usually ends up going for a run. If you're going to be punished with an early wake-up on vacation, you might as well round it out with what turns out to be self-flagellation given the 91 degrees and 90 degree humidity at 7 in the morning. Add to that the fact that you're pushing around ~40 pounds of dead weight (between The Boy and The Bob) and it can amount to a rude awakening.
  • Cure all with a jump in the ocean.
  • Breakfast as 'lucky late sleeping spouse' awakens.
  • Sit on the beach while #1Son naps and the InLaws provide some free babysitting.
  • Out to the beach
  • or pool with The Boy once he wakes up.
  • More free babysitting after lunch as #1Wife and I head back out to the beach while #1Son either naps or just hangs out in the hammock.
  • Evening wind down, usually consisting of a light happy hour followed by dinner.
If this vacation has taught me anything, it is to bring my InLaws on vacation. Though it's been incredibly hot - it seems 2x hotter than any other year we've been here - it's been the nice getaway it always seems to be. I'm already looking forward to next year when we'll be able to have visits to the beach which involve more running around in the waves and less eating sand.

One of the major highlights of the rent-a-house-for-a-week model of vacation is that the family can get together without everyone throttling each other because you're stuck in a hotel room. Especially enjoyable was CrazyUncleD, Fiancee, BigD and MotherInLaw getting to spend time with #1Son.

At the beginning of the vacation, #1Son didn't know what to make of BigD. This was likely the unfortunate consequence of an ill-advised game of 'keep away'. Or perhaps it was the matching outfits, which always elicit skepticism:

But, by the end, they were hammock buddies.

And, as far as the location, I don't know that it gets any better than Debordieu. Quiet. Almost total seclusion. A beautiful, empty beach. Almost no reggaeton (sorry, Miami Beach. You lose on that one). A club for evenings within walking distance on the beach. Did I mention quiet? Miami Beach loses on that one also, I'm afraid.
